No Subject
The ability to change the title of an email you were sent was groundbreaking for me. I never had heard of an email service that allowed you to do that. I don't think there is one.
A Simple Innovation with Profound Impact
This feature in HEY might seem small, but it represents a fundamental shift in how we think about email organization and management. For years, we've been at the mercy of whatever subject line the sender chose - whether it was descriptive, accurate, or helpful.
The Problem with Subject Lines
How many times have you received an email with a subject line like:
- "Quick question"
- "Following up"
- "Re: Re: Re: Meeting"
- Or worse, no subject at all
These vague subjects make it nearly impossible to find emails later or understand their importance at a glance.
Taking Control
Being able to rename email subjects means you can:
- Make vague subjects specific ("Quick question" becomes "Question about budget approval")
- Add context that wasn't there originally
- Create your own organizational system
- Make future searching infinitely easier
Why This Matters
This feature represents a broader philosophy: you should have control over your digital tools, not the other way around. Email is too important to be at the mercy of other people's organizational habits.
The Bigger Picture
When I can rename email subjects, I'm not just organizing my inbox - I'm taking ownership of my digital workflow. It's a small act of empowerment in a world where we often feel powerless against the flood of digital communication.
Sometimes the most revolutionary features are the ones that seem obvious in retrospect. Of course I should be able to organize my emails the way that makes sense to me. The question is: why did it take so long for someone to make this possible?
